* Based on a light novel series by [Kamachi Kazuma], illustrated by [Haimura Kiyotaka].
Background: In the western part of Tokyo is Academy City, so-called because 80% of its 2.3 million inhabitants are students. These students undergo a special curriculum designed to develop psychic abilities and, depending on their abilities, they are grouped into 6 categories, i.e. Level 0 (no ability) to Level 5 (super ability). [Kamijou Touma] is one such student. Although he is classed as a Level 0, he actually possesses the power known as Imagine Breaker which can cancel any and all powers. Over summer break, using his Imagine Breaker, he had first saved the nun [Index] from the magicians pursuing her, and then assisted the Level 5 Electro-master [Misaka Mikoto] in her fight against the strongest among Level 5, the [Accelerator]. Finally, Touma saved the world by averting the magic spell Angel Fall.
Now, the second semester begins, and Touma will soon find himself embroiled in a battle between the practitioners of science and the practitioners of magic.

On a transfer from England to Japan the “The Book of the Law” has been stolen. This is all the more disturbing since deciphering this book supposedly spells the end of the Roman Catholic Church, and thus destroys the equilibrium of power in the world. To make matters worse the nun, [Orsola Aquinas], who recently discovered a way to decipher the book, has been kidnapped…
At the Academy City the Daihaseisai, a sports festival, is underway. This “opportunity” is used to trade the Stab Sword â a spiritual weapon capable of killing Saints with one blow. But as it turns out the actual sword in question is far more dangerous…

A fairly entertaining series, though the cliche-ridden middle portion may irritate. It`s made up for by the back end of the series though. I`m sure we`ll see more from this franchise before too long.
If you watched and liked the first series, then of course you should pick this one up! More characters are introduced and the old ones are further developed. Unfortunately, we still don`t know much about Touma`s power. The anime ends with a cliffhanger of sorts, so hopefully we can expect an Index III at some point.
For fans of Accelerator and Last Order as well as fans of Touma and Misaka, you`ll get some good fun. I know I did.
It was interesting. The only problem I have with the series is that they don`t set up the beginning of each of the arcs really well; this made me to not get into each arc or felt that the arc was necessary for the series (like 8-13). The only characters that kept me watching this series were Mikoto, Mikasa-imouto, and Accelerator. It was cool that we see all the villians from season I in season II helping the main characters.
I`d say nice, but not better than season I. Still it has all the goodies: comedy, gore, ecchi, some romance, psychopaths etc. I just have a feeling that too much time was wasted showing meaningless things – it could have been used for Misaka or Kaori. Anyone who saw season one has to see this the rest should start with S1. Personally I am awaiting S3 – hopefully we`ll get more Railgun there ;]
Such a good anime, i liked every part of it.
I know that some people might not like it due to all the religions in it are looking like they are evil but you should ignore that and watch it.
better than the first season. recommended.
Look, I love this series but every episode and arc is literally composed of two elements:
1. Someone getting hurt or at the risk of getting hurt, making Touma angry thus prevailing.
2. Monologues at every key moment, or when something happens. They literally are giving speeches while characters are dying/hurt.
Really formulaic and tiring after 15 episodes in.
The characters are great, as is the animation/art. The universe is really cool too, so the story can suck you in pretty quick that way.
If you are the type who gets annoyed at repeated plot devices/twists EVERY.SINGLE.EPISODE, watch at your own risk.
Definitely a must watch. Watch the 1st season to savor the goodness of this magicXscience sequel!
No wonder Toaru Majutsu no Index light novels are so famouse, the anime never stops to amaze.
Things start to grow more serious for both Mikoto and Touma.
Wile the same comedy/drama elements remain, the seriousness of the plot steeped up a lot.
The animation is as good as ever and the music is great. The characters are still great and mature well.
It is a must see without a question.
